UPDATE: Mason County Man Sentenced on Federal Gun and Drug Charges

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Mason County man will spend the next decade in prison.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, David Michael Persons, 50, of Mason County, W.Va., was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison.

Back in August, Persons was found guilty on three counts of illegal drug distribution, one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the release, in March 2010 Persons sold heroin to a confidential informant. Later in the same month, he also sold cocaine to another informant.

In April 2010, according to the release, investigators executed a search warrant at the Persons' home and found heroin, digital scales, a .22 caliber rifle and a .410 gauge shotgun.

Due to a conviction in January 2007, Persons was prohibited from possessing any firearms, according to the release.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Mason County man has been convicted on federal drug and gun charges.

David Michael Persons, 50, of West Columbia in Mason County, was found guilty Wednesday on five counts for distributing heroin and cocaine and illegally possessing firearms.

In March of 2010, on three separate occasions, Persons sold drugs to informants from his home.

In April of 2010, investigators searched his home and seized heroin, digital scales, a rifle and a shotgun.

Persons was prohibited from carrying a gun after a 2007 conviction.

He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced in October.
