PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Senator Mitch McConnell has decided to take matters into his own hands after the EPA refused to host a “listening session” in coal country.

McConnell announced Friday he has organized what he calls a pro-coal listening session of his own.

“The Coal Country Hearing EPA Refused to Have” will take place Friday, December 6 at 10 a.m. in the Coal Building at the University of Pikeville.

The Senator says the meeting will include community leaders, small business owners and coal families impacted by the “President’s War on Coal.”

“The EPA has refused to hold a hearing in coal country, so I decided to organize a session in Pikeville so that those affected by the War on Coal will finally have a chance to have their voices heard,” Senator McConnell said. “Following the hearing, I plan on taking the messages that I receive from my constituents directly to the EPA so they can hear how President Obama’s War on Coal is impacting our coal miners, their families and the economy of eastern Kentucky.”
