SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A 19-year-old from Chesapeake, Ohio was convicted on multiple drug charges Tuesday and sentenced to nine years in prison, according to Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn
A Scioto County Common Pleas Court jury deliberated for an hour before convicting Chelsey L. Barry of possession of heroin, trafficking heroin conspiracy to traffic heroin and tampering with evidence.
Troopers with Ohio Highway Patrol stopped Barry on Feb. 28 as she and three male passengers were driving south on U.S. 23 near Houston Hollow Road. Troopers noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the car, and Barry later surrendered 56 grams of heroin she had been hiding during the drive from Detroit to Huntington, W.Va.
Prosecutors say that Barry claimed one of the passengers gave her the drugs to conceal and transport.
There are currently outstanding warrants for the three passengers in the car.
Just after 12:30 Thursday morning, troopers arrested 19-year-old Chelsey Barry of Chesapeake, Ohio after stopping her car for a moving violation and vehicle defect on U.S 23 in Lucasville. Barry was charged with possession of heroin.
Troopers say Barry admitted to possessing approximately 70 grams of heroin. They say the heroin has an estimated street value of about $10,000.
Wednesday night, troopers stopped James Earl Brown, 46, of Muskegon, MI. on U.S. 23 near Lucasville.
Brown was charged with felony possession of heroin and oxycodone.
Troopers say they seized 122 grams of heroin and 270 oxycodone pills with an approximate combined street value was $26,400.
Both people were taken to the Scioto County Jail.
