UPDATE 2/24/14 @ 3 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What started as a missing persons case, is now a homicide investigation. This, after a body was found in an outbuilding.

Neighbors say serious crimes can happen anywhere, but they never expected something like this to happen in their small community, right outside St. Albans.

"It's a quiet neighborhood. It's pretty peaceful down through here," says neighbor Larry Paul.

His street was anything but quiet late Sunday night, as the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office investigated a woman's body found in an outbuilding behind a home. "It's sad, but you read about this and see it on the news every day anymore. It's terrible."

It's now a homicide investigation that could have ties to a missing persons case.

Eva Linda Woods lived in the house. She's been missing since Friday.

Paul says she was quiet and kept to herself. "I didn't really know her. I saw her in the yard a few times in the nightgown. I don't think she got out much."

The Sheriff's Office is still waiting for a positive ID, but neighbors say, they fear the body is the missing woman. "Everyone seems to be nice here. Nothing like this has happened," says Paul, in a small community that's shaken by the death, but relying on each other.

"You never dream something like this would happen this close to you. We keep our eyes open here and watch out for each other as neighbors right here beside us and things, we keep a pretty close eye around," Paul says.
