CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A murder and murder for hire case against one man are both headed to a grand jury.
Monday, Darrell "DJ" Carter was in court in Kanawha County for a preliminary hearing.
He is charged with murdering 18-year-old Tymel McKinney last month on Charleston's west side.
According to police, Carter admitted that McKinney's death was a gang related hit, ordered by gang leaders in Detroit.
Mark Gaddy and a juvenile are also charged in the murder.
During the hearing Monday, a detective testified that Carter told him that he was there when the shooting happened, but Gaddy was actually the one who pulled the trigger.
That isn't the only case open against Carter right now. He is also accused of trying to hire two men to kill Charleston Police Detective Steve Cooper.
The judge found enough evidence to send both cases to the grand jury.
