RIPLEY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two new officers were sworn into the Ripley Police Department Friday night.
Jamie Hart and Seth Johnson are both Ripley natives and say they're eager to begin serving their hometown.
Hart has already served 14 years on the Ripley Fire Department.
Johnson says he was planning to join the Marines, but a knee injury changed that.
Both his father and grandfather were police officers, and he's proud to carry on the tradition.
"This is where I grew up,” 19-year-old Johnson said. “It's where I went to school. My family, everyone lives here. I just want to give back to the community."
Johnson's father is Eric Johnson, who was shot in the mouth while working undercover for the Charleston Police Department in 2006.
Eric held the Bible during his son’s swearing-in.
