UPDATE: Man Charged with Murder in Greenup County Stabbing Death

UPDATE 4/11/13 @ 11:50 p.m.
GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A suspect in a deadly stabbing in Greenup County has been officially charged with murder.

Investigators say that Reece Frasure, 50, of South Shore, is responsible for the stabbing death of Michael Gillespie.

Gillespie, 31, of Lewis County, died shortly after noon on Tuesday at a Huntington hospital.

Sheriff Cooper says the the two men got into a fight at Frasure’s home on March 27 when Frasure pulled out a knife and stabbed Gillespie in the chest.

Gillespie was taken to the hospital where he died Tuesday.

Frasure was originally charged with assault. Following Gillespie's death on Tuesday, Frasure was charged with murder, according to Commonwealth Attorney Mel Leonhart.

Leonhart says once prosecutors get the autopsy results back the case will be presented to a grand jury.

Frasure’s bond was set at $500,000. Cooper said the higher bond is a result of the charge against Frasure being escalated to murder.

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The victim of a stabbing in Greenup County last month has died.

Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper tells WSAZ.com that Michael Gillespie, 31, of Lewis County, died shortly after noon on Tuesday at a Huntington hospital.

Gillespie had reportedly been on life support since the stabbing on March 27.

Reece Frasure, 50, of South Shore, was arrested the next day.

Sheriff Cooper says Frasure and Gillespie got into a fight at Frasure’s home on Micah’s Walk Road when Frasure pulled out a steak knife and stabbed Gillispie in the chest.

Frasure was originally charged with assault. Commonwealth Attorney Mel Leonhart tells WSAZ.com that the charge will now be upgraded to murder and be presented to a grand jury once the medical examiner’s report is completed.

The Sheriff also says Frasure has a lengthy criminal history.

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- One man is behind bars and another is in the hospital clinging to life following a stabbing in Greenup County Wednesday night.

The Greenup County Sheriff says the victim remains on life support as of Friday night.

Reece Frasure, 50, of South Shore was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with assault.

The sheriff says Frasure and another man were fighting at his home on Micah's Walk Road about 10:30 p.m. He says that's when Frasure pulled out a steak knife and stabbed the man in the chest.

The victim was flown to a hospital in Huntington.

Mary Bowling is Frasure’s fiancé. She says Frasure and the victim met each other a few weeks ago through a mutual friend.

Bowling says they had friends visiting their home Wednesday night, and the fight began after an argument. She says Frasure and the victim had been drinking.

"I really do hope and pray to God that he lives,” Bowling said. “I feel for his family."

Randy Knipp says he introduced the two men.

Knipp was at Frasure's home Wednesday night and says he saw the fight and the stabbing.

"They liked each other,” Knipp said. “They were just drinking, and one thing led to another. It shouldn't have gone that far."

The victim's name has not been released.

The sheriff says Frasure has a lengthy criminal history.

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A person is recovering in a Huntington hospital following a stabbing in Greenup County Wednesday night.

Greenup County dispatchers say the stabbing happened about 10:30 p.m. at a home on Mica's Walk Road.

The victim's name and condition have not been released.

There have been no arrests, and investigators have not identified any suspects. The Greenup County Sheriff's Department is handling the case.
