BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A mining complex in Boone County will soon be halting production.
Patriot Coal announced Thursday that it will stop production at the Big Mountain Mining Complex near Wharton and Van.
About 250 miners have been notified that they will be laid off.
Patriot officials say the demand for coal for power has been hurt by utility companies switching to cheaper natural gas to generate electricity.
Patriot announced earlier this week it will idle five other mines across southern West Virginia.
