Woman Hit and Killed by Vehicle in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman was killed Thursday while crossing a busy street in Charleston.

The incident happened at 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of Greenbrier Street and Virginia Street.

Charleston Police say the woman was crossing Greenbrier Street from the State Capitol side when she was hit in the southbound lanes by a SUV.

A passenger on a KRT bus in the area says she got off the bus and tried to administer CPR, but there's nothing she could do.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

People who live by tell WSAZ.com this intersection is dangerous. They say they see several people trying to cross who almost get hit by vehicles in the area. Back in 1981, a man died trying to cross this same intersection.

Police say it was dark at the time of the accident and the pavement was wet when the accident happened.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal accident where a person has been hit by a vehicle in Charleston.

The incident happened at 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of Greenbrier Street and Virginia Street.

Kanawha County 911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com one person was killed in the accident.

Right now, Greenbrier Street is closed from the Kanawha Boulevard to Washington Street.

No other details are being released at this time.
