UPDATE: Shooting Suspect Pleads Guilty

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man admitted Wednesday to his role in a shooting that sent shoppers scrambling outside of the Charleston Town Center Mall earlier this year.

Shaquill Burton pleaded guilty Wednesday to wanton endangerment.

Burton shot Terrance Bonner near the Clendenin Street entrance to the mall in June.

Bonner was hit in the arm and has since made a full recovery.

Burton will be sentenced Dec. 4.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man police say was behind a shooting that sent shoppers scrambling outside of the Charleston Town Center Mall was back in court Thursday.

Shaquille Burton pleaded not guilty to malicious wounding and wanton endangerment.

Police say he shot Terrance Bonner near the Clendenin Street entrance to the mall in June.

Burton will go on trial next month.

He remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A 19-year-old man is wanted in connection with a shooting Monday at Town Center Mall in downtown Charleston, according to Charleston Police.

Shaquille Burton, 19, is wanted on malicious wounding and wanton endangerment charges. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Burton is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The victim, Terrance Bonner, was shot in his arm during the incident.

According to police, as Bonner was dropping off two passengers on Clendenin Street, several people approached his car and began shooting.

A passenger in Bonner’s car drove the victim to St. Francis Hospital where Bonner was treated and released.

Police said it is unclear how many weapons were used but said at least five bullet holes were found in Bonner’s car. No one else was hurt.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Charleston Police are searching for five people after afternoon gunshots rang out Monday on Clendenin Street.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m., just feet from an entrance of the Charleston Town Center Mall.

The victim, Terrance Bonner, was shot in his arm during the incident.

According to police, as Bonner was dropping off two passengers on Clendenin Street, several people approached his car and began shooting.

A passenger in Bonner’s car drove the victim to St. Francis Hospital where Bonner was treated and released.

Police said it is unclear how many weapons were used but said at least five bullet holes were found in Bonner’s car. No one else was hurt.

“Just the nature of this crime, the time of day, and the location shows a real disregard for the safety of law abiding citizens, " said Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper .

Police tell WSAZ.com at this stage in the investigation, it appears the shooting was not random. Police would not comment further on a motive or whether the suspect(s) and victim knew each other

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A person is in the hospital after a shooting on Clendenin Street in downtown Charleston.

The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Monday between the Charleston Civic Center and Charleston Town Center Mall.

The person who was shot was sitting in a car at the time of the shooting.

So far no arrests have been made.

Clendenin Street is closed in the area, while crews search for evidence.
