UPDATE 8/23/12 @ 11 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man who admitted to stealing a newspaper delivery van will not go to jail.
Robert Legg was sentenced Thursday to one to 10 years on home confinement.
Legg recently pleaded guilty to grand larceny.
Legg says he stole the van from outside a gas station in Charleston in December. He stole it because he didn't have a car and wanted to see his girlfriend in Madison.
The van was later found burned on Rutledge Road.
Robert Lee Legg was arrested in Boone County, W.Va., and charged with auto theft and arson.
Legg told police he stole the van because he didn't have a car and was looking for a ride to visit his girlfriend in Madison, W.Va., which is in Boone County.
Police say Legg stole the van Dec. 22 while it was running outside of a gas station in Charleston. The van was used to deliver newspapers published in Charleston.
Last week, the van was found burned along Rutledge Road.
It was taken just before Christmas from a gas station on the East End. Police say the driver left the van running while he ran into the store.
Within minutes, it was gone.
Police found the van this week -- burned and destroyed -- off of Rutledge Road. They have video of the person on surveillance tape but have not been able to identify him.
Charleston newspapers are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
