Pikeville Man Agrees to Plea Deal in Murder Case

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man from Pikeville charged with murder has made a plea deal that includes a lesser charge.

Richard Ratliff, 50, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault during a hearing in Pike County Circuit Court on Monday, according to a published report.

Ratliff was originally charged with murder in the in shooting death of Ricky Coleman, 50, back in October 2012.

Another man, Lacy Smith, was also shot during the incident and survived.

The shooting happened at Coleman's home on Adams Lane.

As part of the plea agreement, a 1st degree robbery charge was dismissed.

The report says the rifle used in the murder was recovered over the weekend after Ratliff told Pikeville Police where it was buried.

As for motive, the report says that Ratliff stole wallets from Coleman and Smith during the incident.

Ratliff will be sentenced in January and faces up to 17 years in prison.

Ratliff was scheduled to go to trial on the charges next month.
