POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Sixty-nine people are out of a job at Pleasant Valley Hospital (PVH) in Point Pleasant.

Last week the hospital announced they were cutting jobs “due to continued challenges caused by decreased reimbursement and utilization, in addition to rising costs and changes in federal and state regulations and requirements.”

According to a news release from the hospital Friday morning, the “reduction in force” impacted most departments in the hospital.

PVH says that 32 of the 69 employees choose to voluntarily participate in the reduction.

Severance packages were given to all impacted employees. The amount of those packages was based on an employee’s length of service at the hospital.

PVH also says that some employees had their hours reduced which resulted in a reduction in pay.

Last week, the hospital said they recently completed a thorough strategic planning process in order to react to the changing healthcare environment across the nation.
