UPDATE 12/16/13 @ 3:45 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West 17th Street Bridge has reopened after a body was found on a bridge girder late Monday morning.

Police believe the body is that of Randy Paul Martin, II.

Martin II, 31, of Huntington, was last seen Tuesday evening. His car was found Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a restaurant located at the foot of the bridge on the Huntington side. Investigators believe the car had been there since Tuesday.

The discovery was made shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Lt. John Williams says the cause of death appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Sometimes we don't have answers for why people do these things," Williams said at a press conference. "There were a few things going on in his life which is private with (the family). At least there are survivors left to surmise what may have happened."

Williams says workers on a passing towboat spotted the body on a girder just over the side of the bridge, about halfway between the West Virginia and Ohio sides of the bridge.

The body was removed about 2 p.m. It will now be sent to the coroner for a cause of death and positive identification.
