MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man who police say caught himself on fire while doing drugs, now finds himself in jail.
Milton Police have charged James Dailey, 35, of Lesage, with two counts of wanton endangerment involving fire and three counts of child endangerment crating the risk of injury
The incident happened at a trailer on Damon Avenue in Milton on Oct. 10.
According to the criminal complaint, emergency crews were called to the trailer about a possible cardiac arrest. EMS workers said they arrived to find Dailey in the bathroom floor with severe burns to the top half of his body.
On the way to the hospital, the EMS crews said Daily told them that he was ”attempting to melt a Fentanyl patch in a spoon, and while doing so had inadvertently lit himself on fire.” Daily also said prior to lighting himself on fire, he injected approximately 100mcg of Fentanyl into his body.
Police say that Dailey’s girlfriend found him in the bathroom, face down with smoke coming from below him. She then rolled him over and poured water on to extinguish the fire. A relative then called 911.
The criminal complaint indicates that a 6-year-old child was in the house when the incident happened.
Dailey was arrested Monday and is currently in the Western Regional Jail.
