DUNBAR, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Brazen burglars have been hitting a quiet apartment complex time and time again, according to Dunbar Police.

Police say thieves have targeted Roxalana Hills at least five times in the past three months.

Sometimes the burglars were successful at breaking in; other times they weren't, leaving tool marks on the doors as a telltale sign.

"They have tried to pry the doors open with some kind of tool to gain entry into the apartments from the inside of the complex," Chief Earl. E. Whittington said.

Apartment managers are offering a $500 reward for any clues leading to the arrest of a man they think is responsible.

They describe him as being between 30 to 40 years old, wearing a gray goatee and a hooded sweatshirt over his head.

"Obviously when they put a reward out, that means it's a pretty serious problem," neighbor Brandon Michaels said.

Michaels moved to the complex with his fiancee, Lindsey Brewer, six months ago. He says they've always felt safe there, but are now urging neighbors to keep a close watch.

"If you see anyone or anything that doesn't belong, inform the front office or the police," he said.

But Brewer says spotting someone out of the ordinary isn't always easy.

"It's hard because there are so many people that live here," she said. "I mean, we don't know most of the people that live here."

Police say another apartment complex across the street -- The Oaks -- also was burglarized once in the past month. They're not investigating the cases as being connected.

Police say they have stepped up patrol efforts in the area.
