UPDATE 12/23/13 @ 5:15 p.m.
ASHLAND, KY (WSAZ) -- It's a crime that's left people throughout our area shocked and outraged. Ashland Police say a man walked into the Speedway along Winchester Avenue Saturday, and walked out with money stolen from a collection bucket for the Children's Miracle Network.

The suspect was caught on surveillance camera taking the money, and then stuffing it under his coat.

"Unfortunately, this time of the year, it's {crime} expanded through the holiday," Major Todd Kelley said. "Everyone is trying to find some money or funds to make the holidays enjoyable."

But without any names or real leads, police turned to the web. They posted the suspect's picture on Facebook in the hopes that someone would recognize his face.

"We had several responses," Kelley said, "which gave us some names and led us in the direction we needed to go."

Less than a day later, police tracked down their suspect. They've identified him as Timothy White, 25, of Ashland.

"I believe he knew that we knew," Kelley said. "If you're caught you're caught."

But police say this story didn't end there. After investigating, officers found out White also was wanted for a similar theft at a Speedway in Westwood, Ky.

"With the evidence we obtained from him {white} and in the previous case," Kelley said, "we were able to put him in jail last night."

It's less than 100 dollars," Kelley said, "but nevertheless, what was there was not his and was going toward a worthy cause. And that was just one of two {robberies} that we know he had taken.

As of now, Ashland police have only charged White with the theft at the Speedway in Westwood. They expect to soon file charges in connection to the Speedway theft in Ashland. White is now being held in the Boyd County Detention Center.
