WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Claudia Maynard is finding it hard to accept the idea she's seen her little brother for the last time.
"He'd be sitting on the porch every morning,” Maynard said. “He won't be there any more."
Frank Fields lives in the apartment across from Bruce Coleman on Pike Street in Williamson.
He says he was walking past Coleman's apartment late Friday night when he noticed the door open.
"The door was wide open, the light was on. Bruce was lying face first down on the ground," Fields said. “He didn't have a pulse."
Fields says he got help from other neighbors and called 911.
"I started giving him CPR,” Fields said. “That's what I was doing when the ambulances got there."
Williamson police say Coleman had lacerations and contusions on his face.
"His couch was covered with blood," Maynard said. "Somebody just beat him to death."
The 55-year-old retired mechanic was pronounced dead at the hospital early Saturday morning.
His sister suspects the motive was robbery.
"It was check day," Maynard said. “I'm sure he got his money."
She says her brother lived alone, mostly kept to himself and liked to drink, but she hopes that won't be a factor in finding justice.
"I hope whoever did it, they find him and catch him and don't sweep it under the rug like he was just a drunk and wasn't worth nothing," Maynard said.
The Williamson police chief says Coleman's body was taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.
