UPDATE 9/16/13 @ 8 p.m.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) – Police say windows on at least 20 vehicles were apparently shot out in Portsmouth and New Boston, Ohio, overnight.
Police Chief Robert Ware says his officers received more than 20 reports of damaged windows, while police in New Boston have one confirmed report of a shot out window.
Chief Ware says the windows appear to have been damaged by a BB or pellet gun.
At this time, there are no known suspects.
When Shawnee State student Justin Dugan saw his window busted out, he was afraid his valuables would be long gone, but was stunned to find them still inside, the thrill of vandalism all the culprits were apparently after.
"I'd like to say to whoever did it, find something else to do,” Dugan said. “There are people who need their car, and it's not right to put someone at an inconvenience because of something stupid."
Monday was likely the busiest day of the year at A-1 Auto Glass. Carl Poling, a worker there, says it’s not unusual to see car vandalism during a weekend, but nowhere near this amount.
"It's been probably a year or two since we had this much vandalism at one time," Poling said.
As of late Monday morning, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office had no reports of damaged windows, according to Ware.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Portsmouth Police or New Boston Police.
