ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Most women deep into their pregnancy are busy preparing for the arrival of their newborn, but one pregnant woman is accused of a vicious beating and theft.
Nearly a week after her attack, Connie Phelps is still covered with bruises.
Her 59-year-old body is already hit by Parkinson's disease.
Phelps just moved into a mobile home at the Adams Rosebud Trailer Park in Ashland a month ago.
She says a 23-year-old woman, who was friends with her son, often stayed with her and helped take care of her.
"She didn't have a place to stay,” Phelps said. “I felt sorry for her."
Phelps says after an argument last Wednesday, the much younger woman attacked her, hitting her four times and knocking her to the floor.
"She just hauled off and hit me in the face twice, broke my glasses, knocked me down, grabbed my purse, and hit me twice with it," she said.
Phelps says her attacker stole $500 cash and $120 worth of hyrdocodone pills.
"She had no remorse at all in her eyes or nothing," Phelps said.
Her understanding landlord Larry Adams is not upset Phelps won't be able to pay rent on time.
"It's a shame that kids are on pills so bad that they have to beat up on older people and people that are disabled," Adams said.
Maybe the saddest part in all of this, Phelps says, is the suspect is 8 months pregnant.
“I don’t know what she’s going to do,” Phelps said. “She’s not ready to have a child.”
Phelps reported this to the Ashland Police Department last Wednesday, despite a voicemail from the suspect threatening her if she did so.
We're told there have been no arrests yet.
