SEVERE WEATHER: Snow & Icy Conditions, Accidents Reported

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Several accidents have been reported in and around Charleston due to slick roads.

Metro 911 has received several reports of car accidents in the northbound lanes of Interstate 77. The trouble spots, include I-77N at the 64 split and at the Edens Fork exit.

The northbound lanes of I-77 near the Edens Fork exit were closed for nearly an hour, but have reopened. Dispatchers say one person was hurt in the accident.

Accidents have also been reported along Interstate 79. Right now, emergency crews are on the scene of an accident in the northbound lanes near the Clendenin exit.

911 Dispatchers are urging drivers to use extra caution on the roads and allow extra time and space between vehicles.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Snow is falling heavily in the Kanawha Valley, but so far no major incidents to report for the Thanksgiving travel.

Interstate 64 from Huntington to Charleston remains wet, but there are some snow covered spots, near Teays Valley. Dispatchers say there are some icy spots on bridges and overpasses.

Crews with the Division of Highways have been out all night treating the roads in West Virginia.

Dispatchers with the West Virginia Turnpike tell WSAZ.com there are no weather related problems to report. Right now, the Turnpike is just wet.

In Logan County, dispatcher say Route 44 is starting to get slick.

In Nicholas County, dispatchers say roads are covered, but no reports of any accidents.

In Kentucky, the Transportation Department reports road conditions are good or favorable with mainly wet pavement.

They also say all state routes have been treated and snow plow crews remain on duty.

Emergency crews urge drivers to use caution as they head out Wednesday morning.
