Shots Fired at Troopers in Logan

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is behind bars after firing shots a two troopers in Logan County.

According to Capt. Nelson with the West Virginia State Police, John C. Watkins, 24, of Logan is being charged with four counts of wanton endangerment.

Watkins was arrested Tuesday morning.

According to Nelson, troopers responded to Watkins' home in Whites Addition on Route 44 just outside city limits about 10 a.m. He was threatening to commit suicide. When troopers arrived at the home, Watkins fired a gun at them and locked himself inside his home.

A 911 dispatcher talked Watkins into leaving the home and he was taken into custody, according to Nelson.

No troopers were injured during the incident.

Watkins was arraigned in Logan Magistrate Court and is now in the Southwestern Regional jail.
