Dozens of Storage Units Broken Into

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Dozens of victims are frustrated after property they thought was in safe keeping was stolen.

Huntington Police say Thursday two suspects forced their way in at the Convenient Self Storage building in the Westmoreland area of Huntington.

We’re told they broke into as many as 80 individual storage units, stealing thousands of dollars worth of a wide range of items.

"You can't even have junk any more,” victim John Sapic said. “While we're out working, someone is stealing our stuff and there's nothing we can do about it."

Britanni Mills was one of the many victims checking on her storage unit Friday evening to see what was missing.

"They took a flat screen TV and a box of checks that I had,” she said. “They've completely ransacked everything.”

Some victims say what's especially troubling is they had stuff stolen from the same storage units in the summer.

"You pay good money for the unit and you think it's safe,” Florence May said. “I guess not."

"This is two times,” Mills said. “We don't want to have a third."

That storage facility does have security cameras.

However, after the thefts in the summer, the victims say they were told those cameras were not working. There's no word yet on whether the cameras captured anything this time.

The manager of Convenient Self Storage declined to comment.
