BRANCHLAND, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What was first thought to be an explosive device at the Branchland Post Office in Lincoln County late Monday afternoon turned out to be just a toy, West Virginia State Police say.
Troopers say a bomb squad was called to the post office after an employee heard a beeping noise coming from one of the packages.
The owner of a nearby IGA store was told to keep customers inside while crews checked out the post office.
A couple of neighboring businesses also were evacuated, and part of W.Va. 10 was shut down for about three hours.
As it turns out, the device was only a child's toy that started beeping because the battery was running low, troopers say.
