UPDATE 4/12/14 @ 6:30 p.m.
FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Officials are beginning to determine exactly what caused a deadly two-vehicle crash on Route 21 in Jackson County .

The accident happened about 5 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Smith Road in Fairplain.

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs says John Abbott of Jackson County died in the crash. He says Abbott, pulled onto Rt. 21 in front of 35 year old, Candy Moore.

Ten people were involved in the crash. Both vehicles had five people inside. The nine other people involved in the crash were injured

Morre's vehicle had four children inside and Abbott was carrying one child and three young adults.

Two people were flown to the hospital. The others were transported by ambulance.

The sheriff says eight of those people will be fine, but one is still considered to be in critical but stable condition.

FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Route 21 is reopen Friday night near the scene of a deadly two-car crash earlier that evening, Jackson County 911 dispatchers say.

The accident happened about 5 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Smith Road in Fairplain.

Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs told WSAZ.com, one person has died in the accident.

Crews on the scene tell WSAZ.com that there were 10 people total in the two vehicles. They say the other nine people were critically injured.

Two people were flown to the hospital. The others were transported by ambulance.

Boggs says a car pulled out in front of an SUV when they collided.

Tami Cox lives near the scene of the crash. She and other neighbors say they've seen far too many accidents in the same area.

"They happen here often, the same type of wrecks, usually with severe injuries," Cox said.

Emergency crews from Roane and Putnam counties also responded to the scene.

FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A t-bone style crash has closed Route 21 in Fairplain, in Jackson County, West Virginia.

Firefighters tell WSAZ.com two cars were involved in the crash.

Crews say several people have been flown to the hospital.

No other details are being released at this time.
