GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A 17-year-old student has been arrested and charged with making threats against students, teachers and staff at Greenup County High.

Kentucky State Police say the teen is charged with two counts of terroristic threatening and two counts of wanton endangerment in connection with two incidents this week.

Troopers say on Monday, an anonymous text message was sent saying there was a bomb inside Greenup County High School. Emergency responders did a search of the school and found no explosive device.

On Tuesday, troopers say another text message was sent from the same number, threatening to kill people at the school. The school, again, was placed on modified lockdown and another search of the school was conducted. Officials again found nothing during the search.

KSP says the17-year-old used a cell phone app to change his number when the text messages were sent.

“Threats of this nature are extremely serious and will not be tolerated. The Kentucky State Police will act with due diligence in an effort to resolve complaints of this nature. Any individual responsible will be punished to the full extent of the law,” said Cpt. J. Stephens, Commander Post 14.

The teen is being held in the Boyd County Juvenile Detention Center. If convicted, he could face more than 10 years in jail.

The investigation is still ongoing.
