BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A high school athlete is dead after a car crash in Boone County, W.Va.

Carolyn Green was a member of the girl's basketball team at Scott High School.

She flipped her car on Corridor G in Julian Wednesday.

Family and friends said she was known for her laugh, positive attitude and athletic abilities.

But the one characteristic all of them said they'll miss most, is her bright smile.

"She'll never be forgotten, my family will always remember, and I mean, it's hard but we just have to keep living and just remember her and know that she's in a better place," said Sydney Dangott.

Fighting tears, Carolyn Green's second cousin, Sydney Dangott is coping with one of the toughest losses of her life.

"Since we were little, like every day we'd hang out together and stay with each other almost every night and I could tell her everything, she's my best friend," said Dangott.

Carolyn was a junior at Scott High School, just 16 years old.

She died Wednesday afternoon, deputies said she flipped her car on Corridor G near Julian.

"It just, it didn't feel real, I didn't want to believe it at first, it was hard," said Dangott.

Sydney isn't alone.

Carolyn was one of the softball team's biggest fans.

"Not having her around, it's just an empty feeling," said Scott High School Girl's Softball Coach, D.A. Harless.

Scott High School leaders said they're planning a vigil for Carolyn. They're also preparing for students to return from spring break Monday.

"When things like this occur you have to be there to support one another and stand by the children and be there to listen," said Scott High School Assistant Principal, Christopher Bulger.

Sydney, her friends and her family are remembering Carolyn.

"Basketball, her family, church, she just always liked to have a good time, she was always happy."

She said now, every softball game she plays, will be for Carolyn.

School leader said they will have counselors on hand Monday morning.

There's no word on when a vigil may happen.

Family members said the wake service is Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Handley Funeral Home.
