BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A candlelight vigil was held for a teenager who died in a motorcycle accident during the weekend in Boone County.

The accident happened about 7 p.m. Saturday.

West Virginia State Police tell WSAZ.com Grant Backus, 16, was riding his motorcycle on Missouri Fork Road near Hewett, when he hit another motorcycle.

Backus was taken to a hospital but died on Sunday.

The other motorcycle rider was not seriously hurt.

There's no word on what caused the accident.

The vigil took place Tuesday night at Scott High School.

Students say the feeling of loss is becoming all too familiar. This was the third Scott student who's died since December.

Backus's stepbrother Bailey Hager says the last words he spoke to him were Saturday when he told him to be careful on his motorcycle. Now he can't believe he's seen him for the last time.

"It's hard to think he's not going to be there anymore," Hager said.

Backus's friends say the thing they will miss the most about him is his smile.

"He had a smile that would light up the darkest room. He was just an amazing person," Ivy Chochran said.

"He just had this great personality that everybody loved; this great smile," Billy Elkins said.

"He could make everybody laugh even if he wasn't trying," J.T. Lester said.

"His smile is the thing that got everyone to cheer up. If I was having a bad day, he would know to come up to me and cheer me up," Alexas McNabb said.

Backus's family says he was an organ donor.
