Thousands of Pills Stolen from Floyd County Pharmacy; Suspects on the Run

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Three men are on the run after police say the broke into a pharmacy and got away with thousands of dollars worth of pills.

The Parkview Pharmacy in the Minnie area of Floyd County was broken into about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police say they believe the same men also tried unsuccessfully to break into a nearby pharmacy in Wheelwright.

“They didn't take money, there was money on the floor and they passed it up, it was change but they could have took it but they passed it up and took drugs only,” Parkview Pharmacy Co-owner Kristy Moore said.

Moore said she thought she knew what the men were after inside the pharmacy.

“Basically got about two thousand pills off of us,” Moore said.

The majority of stolen pills were Loricet and Loritab.

The store owner said that with a limited amount of time the men had to know where to go to get what they wanted.

Surveillance video showed three men getting in through the drive through window. They were only in the store for about one minute.

“Once they broke in through the window the alarm went off and they came straight here,” said Moore.

“They knew what they were getting, somebody watched us put it on the shelf.”

Just hours before the burglary in Minnie, the Wheelwright police chief said his tires were slashed and there was an attempted burglary at Family Drug.

Some law enforcement officers say surveillance video suggests there could be a connection.

“It is possible it could be the same suspects,” Delmas Johnson of Floyd County Sheriff's Department said.

Johnson said that they caught a glimpse of the vehicle being driven by the suspects when they slit the police chief’s tires.

Some say the drug epidemic has made them feel unsafe in their community.

“It makes you think and be more aware of your surroundings,” said Johnson. “If they are going to cut tires on a police car what else would they do to get to what they need to get to.”

Moore said she is mainly concerned for the future generations’ safety.

“It makes me feel uneasy mostly for my kids,” Moore said.
“I went to school here at McDowell and everything was fine, I'd walk outside and they did not lock the buildings but now you have to because there are all kinds of drug seekers out there."

She says addicts will stop at nothing to get what they want.

“They will go anywhere where they can get some,” said Moore.

Kentucky State Police are investigating these crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Post 9 in Pikeville at 606-433-7711.
