Three Arrested for Planned Armed Robbery

NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman was held at gunpoint in her own car in Nitro.

It happened early Thursday morning at the Intersection of Elm Street and DuPont Avenue. WSAZ.com is not releasing the name of the victim, but she was able to escape without getting hurt.

According to Nitro Police, the victim received a phone call from her friend, Kayla Levitt, asking for a ride. The victim picked up Levitt and two others, Kaleb "Benjie" Johnson and Megan Long. Police say Levitt told the victim, "this is how it's going to happen and there's a gun." They say Johnson held a sawed down shotgun to the victims head.

Virginia Searls lives next door. She says, "it's very scary. I'm a nervous wreck. I really hate that about our next door neighbor." She says she doesn't talk to her neighbors much but says they are good people and have been through a lot.

Police say during the attempted robbery, Long went through the victim's purse and Levitt searched the victims purse and bra to see if she had anything on her, all while Johnson held the gun to her head. The suspects didn't find anything and let the victim walk away. the victim's neighbor says, "these young people, it's so scary for them to be out and something like this to happen."

Police haven't said if the suspects were looking for drugs or money. They didn't get away with anything. All three confessed to police. They're being held on first degree robbery charges with $25,000 cash-only-bonds each. Police say they're also investigating whether Johnson will be charged federally for the sawed off shotgun.
