UPDATE: Children Found Living in Deplorable Conditons; Parents in Court

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A mother and father charged with letting their nine children live in what troopers say were “deplorable conditions” are set to be arraigned Friday afternoon.

Edith Strange, 35, and Johnathan Prater, 34, both of Morehead, are charge with wanton endangerment.

Kentucky State police say on Monday they went to the couple’s home on Igo Road in Rowan County after receiving a call from the Department of Social Services about children at the residence with no food, and being allegedly abused.

The children were ages 2 months to 17 years. All 9 children were removed from the residence.

Troopers say the 2-month-old was admitted to the hospital for treatment of malnutrition, dehydration and hypothermia. A second child was also admitted for malnutrition and dehydration. Four other children were treated and released.

The children’s mother, Edith Strange, 35, of Morehead, was arrested at the house.

Their father, Johnathan Prater, 34, of Morehead was arrested in Montgomery County Wednesday and returned to Rowan County Thursday.

Strange and Prated will be arraigned on the charges in Rowan County District Court Friday afternoon.
