UPDATE: Road Connecting US 52 and I-64 in Huntington Back Open


UPDATE 2/25/14 @ 9:20 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The connecting road between the West 17th Street exits of I-64 and the US 52/ West 17th Street Ohio River Bridge is back open after a semi carrying 48,000 pounds of plywood lost its load early Tuesday morning.

The accident happened just after 5:30 a.m.

We’re told the truck just got off the interstate and was heading towards Ohio, when the load slipped off and onto the highway.

The driver told WSAZ.com that parts of the railing holding the plywood in place on the trailer broke.

An SUV heading towards the interstate was hit by some of the falling plywood. That driver was hurt and taken to the hospital. There is no word on that person’s condition.

A car heading towards the interstate was hit by some of the falling plywood. That driver was hurt and taken to the hospital.

The West 17th Street entrance and exit ramps of I-64 are closed to all traffic.

The US 52/ West 17th Street Bridge is open. Drivers coming from Ohio must get off at the Washington Avenue Exit. Drivers going into Ohio must get on the bridge at the ramp.

Crews are now working to cleanup the plywood.

Right now there is no timetable when the wood will be cleaned up.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A truck hauling 48,000 pounds of plywood crashed on the road connecting U.S. Route 52 with Interstate 64 near the 17th Street exit Tuesday morning, sending wood flying and blocking all four lanes of the road.

That's according to dispatchers, who say it happened about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday as the truck traveled southbound.

There are no reports of any injuries.
