UPDATE 4/3/12 @ 7:45 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Developers apparently aren't interested in building a hotel adjacent to the Tamarack artisan center in Beckley.
The West Virginia Parkways Authority sent out bid solicitations to 17 developers in March. But no bids were submitted.
Parkways Authority general manager Greg Barr says the developers had expressed interest in building a hotel. He says the authority will discuss its options at its meeting on Thursday.
A land-use study ranked a hotel as the top priority for developing 82 acres surrounding Tamarack.
During a meeting Thursday, the board agreed to provide up to $45,000 to hire Land Planning and Design Associates to help the authority pick a developer to begin its first phase of construction at the Tamarack Conference Center.
The first phase includes building a hotel on the property near the interstate and conference center.
The board hopes to have a developer picked for the hotel by April. The board is looking to develop 60 acres with a hotel, restaurants, RV stand or other things. Members aren't sure if the property will be leased or they will sell parcels.
Also at Thursday's meeting, the authority approved a plan to spend up to $13,000 to upgrade the Park and Ride areas off the Paint Creek, Mahan and Pax exits. The money will help pave the areas and install guardrails.
The Paint Creek Scenic Trail Association will be adding kiosks to the Park and Rides that will provide maps of the areas, along with pamphlets of what's offered there for local tourists.
