UPDATE: Man Charged in Connection with Standoff in Charleston
UPDATE 11/2/12 @ 10:45 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man police say threatened his father and several others with a grenade is now in jail.
John Richard Banks Jr., 34, was arraigned Friday morning and charged with a felony count of false reports concerning bombs or other explosive devices.
According to the criminal complaint, Banks’ father called 911 and reported that his son had a knife and a hand grenade and intended to use it. This happened on Patrick Street about 5:30 a.m.
Police responded and had a short standoff with Banks before arresting him.
The hand grenade was found at the house and was examined by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad.
The bomb squad determined the grenade to be inert.
Banks has been taken to South Central Regional Jail.
Another man was arrested as well. Police say he had to be taken to the hospital because of chest pains. Charges are pending against him.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people have been arrested following a family disturbance and standoff that that police say involved a hand grenade and knife.
It happened just before 6 a.m. Friday at 501 Patrick Street in Charleston.
A Charleston Police detective says it started when they got a call about a woman being threatened by a man with a knife and hand grenade.
A SWAT team was then called to the scene.
After negotiations, a woman and three children were able to get out of the house.
Police the man who allegedly threatened the woman, along with another man remained in the house.
A short time later the second man came out and told police the man with the knife and grenade was passed out in the house.
Police arrested both men about 7 a.m. They said there no explosives in the hand grenade.
No names have been released at this time.
