UPDATE 2/27/14 5:30 p.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What happens in Vegas is apparently heading through Hurricane.
Tuesday night, Putnam County Sheriff's Deputies and members of the Metro Drug Unit "MDENT" arrested Juan Carlos Bracamontes, 21, and Michael Francisco Lopeman, 33.
Deputies say the pair drove all the way from Las Vegas to the east coast to sell pot and prescription pills. Police knew the men would be traveling through the area after being tipped off by an informant who had just been busted for pot possession a few weeks earlier.
"(He) gave us a couple names of suspects that are traveling from Vegas through West Virginia," Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese said. "(He) basically gave us a time that that (they) would come through, which was last night."
Sheriff Deweese says his deputies were then able to use the suspect's own cell phone against them.
"We executed a search warrant and was able to ping a phone that we call it, and get an exact location of that vehicle," Sheriff Deweese said. "My undercover detectives followed the vehicle from the West Virginia-Kentucky state line through Cabell County to Putnam County where as my deputy sheriff was waiting."
Inside the suspect's car, deputies say they found approximately $8,000 worth of pot and pills.
"We did go ahead and look through the rest of the vehicle and discovered 95 oxycontin pills along with about a pound of marijuana," Sheriff Deweese said.
Deputies are still working to determine where the suspects were heading and where they had been. Sheriff Deweese says deputies had expected to find even more drugs. They say it's very possible the pair made deliveries prior to making it to Putnam County.
Deputies tell WSAZ.com they pulled over a car on I-64 in Hurricane about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
Juan Bracamontes and Michael Lopeman, who are both from Las Vegas, were in the car.
Deputies say they searched the car and found a pound of marijuana and 95 oxycodone pills.
The street value of those drugs is estimated at $8,000.
Bracamontes and Lopeman are both in the Western Regional Jail right now.
