Two Explosions Reported at John Amos Plant in Putnam Co.; No Power Outages Reported

UPDATE 5/28/14 @ 2 p.m.
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A transformer caught on fire at the John Amos Plant in Putnam County, causing two explosions.

The explosions were reported about 12:30 p.m. at one of the plant's large transformers.

The explosions did cause a fire that firefighters with the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department were able to put out. The explosions caused a large boom in the area.

A spokesperson with AEP tells WSAZ.com the incident didn't cause any local power outages.

Sheriff Steve Deweese tells WSAZ.com no one was hurt. The fire was self contained and no chemicals were nearby.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Putnam County Sheriff Steve DeWeese tells WSAZ.com there have been two explosions reported at the John Amos Plant in Winfield.

The explosions were reported about 12:30 p.m. at one of the plant's large transformers.

The explosions did cause a fire that firefighters are still working to put out. It also caused a large boom in the area.

Our crew at the scene says a lot of smoke is still pouring from the transformer that caught fire.

Sheriff Deweese says there have been no reports of injuries at this time, but emergency crews are still on the scene.
