Two Men Charged in More Than $500 in Cigarette Theft

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Two men were arrested and charged with taking more than $500 worth of cigarettes from the Exxon service station along U.S. 60 in Cannonsburg, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

Michael Barney, 50, of Wurtland, Ky., and David R. Spradlin, 56, of Ashland, both were charged with theft by unlawful taking. They were taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.

Troopers were told that two men would enter the business. As one man distracted the clerk on duty, the other would take cartons of cigarettes. Both men were determined to have stolen cigarettes.

Police were first notified about the theft on Nov. 26. The investigation is ongoing.
