KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two men have been taken to the hospital after a police chase ended in a crash.

The chase started about 6:30 a.m. Friday in Charleston when a State Trooper tried to make a traffic stop.

Police say an officer pulled a car over in the southbound lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike, but when the officer approached the car, the driver took off.

The officer chased the driver until he got off the Paint Creek exit. That's when police say the driver headed north on Paint Creek Road, lost control and flipped the car before landing in a ditch.

The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital. No word on the extent of their injuries, but the officer says both of them were talking to EMS crews.
