NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One woman charged with sexual assault spoke exclusively with WSAZ.com and denies the allegations.
Deputies in Nicholas County say Alexandria Schmidt sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl on at least eight different occasions. Schmidt told WSAZ.com exclusively, she didn't touch the girl. She says, "She told him I had sex with her eight times and I never touched her, never."
In fact, Schmidt says she barely knew the girl. She says she knew Julie Smith, a family member of the girl.
Schmidt says she's being targeted. "I feel like they're discriminating me because I'm a lesbian. They targeted me and they could have went after someone else that could actually make someone pregnant and actually hurt them."
If convicted, Schmidt would become a registered sex offender. She says, "I never did anything and now it's come out to be a big deal and I'm facing eight years in jail."
Smith is also behind bars. she's charged with authorizing sexual contact with a minor.
Nicholas County Sheriff's deputies say Julie Smith, 36, knew Alexandria Schmidt, 19, had assaulted a 13-year-old family member on at least eight separate occasions.
Smith is charged with authorizing sexual contact with a minor, and Schmidt is charged with eight counts of sexual assault.
Both women were taken to the Central Regional Jail. Schmidt's bond was set at $40,000, and Smith's bond is $20,000.
