ORIGINAL STORY 7/19/12
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Two men have been charged in a string of armed robberies.

Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly says James Whiteman, 30, of The Plains and James Geer, 26, of Millfield were arrested Thursday on aggravated robbery charges.

Detectives say both men confessed to robbing four convenience stores.

Detectives say Whiteman robbed the Guysville Marathon Convenience Store on April 8, the Chauncey Marathon on June 27,
the Richland Avenue Speedway in Athens on July 15 and and T's Quick Stop in Chauncey. They say Geer served as a lookout for Whiteman in all of the robberies, texting Whiteman when it was clear to enter the business.

Investigators say the men also admitted to breaking into the Maplewood Inn on E. State Street in Athens on two occasions.

After searching the suspect's homes, detectives say they found a black painted BB handgun and a BB rifle with a shotgun barrel over it.

Both suspects are charged with aggravated robbery. More charges are expected to be filed.
