UPDATE 6/23/14 @ 6:30 p.m.
LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Summer break is off to a tragic start in Logan, West Virginia. Friends, teammates and classmates are mourning the loss of a teenager who died Sunday night in an ATV crash.

Tyler Frye was just 14 years old.

West Virginia State Police say he crashed his ATV along Pine Creek Road along Route 44. It's still unclear what caused the crash.

Tyler had just finished his last year at Logan Middle School and was ready to head to the high school.

An honor student, Tyler also loved to hunt and fish. Coaches say he played football, baseball and basketball.

While he loved his time on the court, it's the kid he was off the court that they'll remember.

“He was one of my favorite kids that I have ever coached just because of the way he was,” middle school basketball coach Wyatt Scaggs said. “He was everybody's friend. I never heard a child say one negative thing about him.”

“He's one of the leaders in the school. I just spent a week with him at basketball camp just a few weeks ago. He's a great kid. We had a little bit in common. We're both Bengal fans. You don't see many of those around. We talked about that a lot and joked about that,” high school basketball coach Mark Hatcher said.

The community united to grieve and remember Tyler at a prayer service Monday night. It began at 7 p.m. at the middle school.
