UPDATE: One Dead in Crash on US 35; Names Released

UPDATE 4/3/14 @ 5:50 p.m.
MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A case of a fatal crash involving an SUV and farm tractor will be presented to the Mason County Grand Jury to determine if charges will be filed.

The crash happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday on Route 35 in the Southside area.

Sgt. T.S. Mills with the West Virginia State Police tells WSAZ.com that John Kay, 46, of Southside was turning off Route 35 onto Kay Lane.

Mills tells WSAZ.com that the driver of an SUV, John Howard, 68, of Gahanna, Ohio, was passing several semis and cars in a no passing zone, when he hit the tractor.

The tractor flipped, pinning Kay underneath it.

Kay died of his injuries.

Howard was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center, where as of Thursday evening, he is in good condition.

WVSP say they are handing the case over to the Mason County Prosecutor's Office to present to the grand jury.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- U.S. 35 has reopened Wednesday evening after a fatal crash between a tractor and an SUV, according to the Mason County Emergency Management Agency.

It happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Southside area.

The driver of the tractor died from his injuries.

The driver of the SUV was flown to a Huntington hospital.

Their names have not been released yet.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One person is dead after a crash involving a tractor and an SUV in Mason County.

Route 35 in the Southside area remains closed in the area at this hour.

The crash happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Mason County Sheriff Greg Powers tells WSAZ.com the SUV hit the farm tractor, causing it to roll over.

The driver of the tractor died from his injuries.

The driver of the SUV was flown to a Huntington hospital.

The West Virginia State Police have crews on the scene reconstructing the accident.

There's no word when the road will reopen.

Detours are set up in Henderson and the Buffalo Bridge.

No names have been released.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- 911 dispatchers in Mason County, West Virginia confirm that one person has died in a crash on Route 35.

The crash happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Southside area.

The crash involved a tractor and an SUV.

Dispatchers say one person died in the crash and two other people injured. One of the injured was flown to a trauma center.

At this time, no names or conditions have been released.

Route 35 is closed in the area and will remain closed until further notice. Detours are set up in Henderson and the Buffalo Bridge.

West Virginia State Police have a reconstruction crew on scene.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A portion of Route 35 in Mason County is shut down after a crash.

The crash was reported about 11 a.m. Wednesday and reportedly involves a tractor and a car.

There are reports of at least one injury.

911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the crash is in the area of the Kanawha Valley Speedway, in Southside.

They say the highway is closed in the area of the crash.

Detours are set up in Henderson and the Buffalo Bridge.
