University of Charleston Students Helping Union Mission

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (WSAZ) -- A group of students from the University of Charleston are volunteering their time to stock up the shelves at the Union Mission and they need your help.

It's all an effort to make sure those in need here in the Charleston area don't go hungry. The students involved are part of SIFE, or Students in Free Enterprise.

They spent about four hours in front of the Ashton Plaza Kroger, Saturday, collecting canned goods. This is the second year the SIFE team held a food drive. Last year, they collected 8,000 pounds of food and hope to beat that number this year. The problem is, this time of year happens to be slow for donations but they're hoping you can help them reach their goal.

"It's the post Christmas giving which tends to be quite low in food pantries and so that's one of the great aspects of having it in February is we can stock food pantries when they're a little bit, tend to be low because people have been through the giving season of Christmas," Ryan Moran, President of the University of Charleston SIFE team said.

If you missed Saturday's donation you still have a chance to help out. The team will be back at the Ashton Place Kroger, as well as the Riverwalk Plaza Kroger, Sunday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

SIFE is an International organization that looks to improve the quality of life and standard of living through business practices.
