CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- While the students are away, major work is underway at the University of Charleston.
When students return in August, they'll be welcomed with a new coffee shop and an updated auditorium.
A $500,000 anonymous donation is making the upgrade possible.
No major changes have been made to the school's Geary Auditorium in 60 years. The 900 seats inside the auditorium are now gone. The original chair frames will be returned, but the seat cushions will be replaced. Repairs will also be made to the stage and the curtains will be replaced.
The Coffee Tavern inside the student union is also undergoing a transformation.
Starbucks coffee will be served up. There will be more coffee machines and seating. The university is also working to provide more parking near the student union so the public can pull up and stop in for a cup of coffee.
UC officials hope the work will be done by the time students and staff return in August.
