GUYANDOTTE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Guyandotte community gathered at the elementary school Thursday for a candlelight vigil for the people of Newtown, Connecticut.
Some who attended told WSAZ.com the Christmas season offers a light of hope at this very difficult time for the entire nation.
Angela Clay is the mother of a Guyandotte Elementary student. She says she is counting her blessings.
"It could have been any school in this nation. that one, I'll never know why," Clay said. "It could have been this one just as much as that one, and i would have been going through what these parents are going through right now."
The event was organized by the Guyandotte VFW and the 7th Avenue Baptist Church.
It's been nearly a week since the massacre at a Connecticut elementary school that took the lives of 20 children and six adults.
