BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man's body was pulled from the Big Coal River late Friday night, Boone County Sheriff's deputies say.

They say the man was a fugitive from Kanawha County and wanted in several states.

The fugitive was first spotted at a home in Racine. He pulled up to that home with another man in a vehicle before they fled on foot. Deputies were able to trace tracks through the snow and capture the other man.

That man was charged with fleeing and faces other charges. His name and age have not been released yet.

About an hour later, the fugitive from Kanawha County was found dead in the river. It happened in an area along W.Va. 3 near Racine.

That mans name and age also are not being released at this time.

While the water wasn't very deep where the body was recovered, it was extremely cold, according to deputies.

Four deputies had to be taken to the hospital for hypothermia-related issues from the cold conditions.

Crews from the Racine Volunteer Fire Department also were at the scene.
