CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A church on the west side of Charleston is making plans to expand to accommodate its growing congregation.
Randolph Street Baptist Church is looking to expand its auditorium. Right now, the church seats 250, but it hopes to soon seat 400.
On Thursday, the pastor attended the Charleston Board of Zoning appeals to ask for a parking variance to provide enough parking for his congregation. Reverend Jason McClanahan says area businesses have agreed to allow members to park on their parking lots on Sunday so they can attend church.
The board approved the variance.
The church doesn't have a date when the construction on the auditorium will begin.
The pastor says the church wants to stay on the west side and this is the first step to ensure that happens.
The church was built in the 1920s.
