UPDATE 5/8/13 @ 6:30 p.m.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- There were some very intense moments for a mom from Scioto County after she stumbled upon a shooting scene Tuesday night and took it upon herself to make sure the suspect didn't get away.

“I'm filling up 'cause I'm empty from it,” Crystal Davis said. “I spent ten dollars running him down. And my car's so easy on gas ... That tells you how fast I was going. My pedal was to the floor.”

She was heading to the same gas station to buy cigarettes when just across the street she spotted a woman covered in blood. That woman told Davis she had been shot.

“I didn't know if she was going to stand there and die,” Davis said.

So she made a split-second decision and started following the man the victim said pulled the trigger.

“I just kept telling myself, I'm not going to let him go,” Davis said. “I'm not going to let him go.”

The suspect was Scott Wilson from North Carolina. Davis said they reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

“I was trying to stay calm,” she said. “You know, just lighting my cigarette one after another, like ... I'm not gonna let you go.”

Neighbors say if it hadn't been for Davis, they wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Sherry King told WSAZ.com she keeps thinking about what might have happened.

“Some of the kids are out riding their bikes and stuff,” King said. “And what if that was my child over there walking and then a bullet hit them?”

Davis says she's happy with the outcome, but she might rethink her actions next time.

“I probably wouldn't do it again,” Davis said. “It was just in the spur of the moment.”

And there is one thing she wishes would've happened differently:

“I was hoping the cops would ask me if I needed any gas money,” she said.
