Michael Jackson: His Legacy
|
|

In 1983, a shy, yet talented Michael Jackson made his mark on the entertainment industry. With his famous white-sequined glove and his glittered silver vest, he danced and moved like no other of his time.
With hits like "Billie Jean", "Thriller", he not only helped revitalize the Top 40 format in the early 80s, but he also was responsible for getting music videos by African-American artists on MTV.
The 'King of Pop' ruled the Billboard charts for much of his career. After his flashy performance in 1983, his music career skyrocketed into international superstardom.
In 1984, four of his albums appeared in the top 15. He was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame later that year.
He was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he won 13 Grammy Awards.
In his 40-year career, 13 of his songs were No. 1 hits.
It is believed that Jackson’s lifetime record sales are currently at $750 million, which undoubtedly makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time.
His influence throughout the United States and the world not only broke down racial barriers, but also paved the way for budding artists. His distinctive sound, style and choreography have influenced the likes of Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, and many others in the industry.
While his life hasn't been perfect, and his personal life exploited by the tabloids, his successful career and humanitarian efforts will be remembered for many years to come.
