Chilifest 2009 - Huntington’s Largest Downtown Festival

WSAZ NewsChannel 3 and Chili Willi’s Mexican Cantina present the 26th Annual Original ChiliFest Saturday, September 19, in downtown Huntington on 3rd Avenue at Pullman Square.

The streets of Huntington will fill with “chili heads” as the winner of this "much heated" event qualifies to represent West Virginia at the ICS (International Chili Society) World's Chili Championship in Charleston, West Virginia on October 9, 10 and 11. Cooks come from far and wide to downtown Huntington, with their pots, spices, secret ingredients and chili lore for this annual spirited competition.

Live entertainment will be provided by Rob McNurlin and Big Planet Soul. Other contests and events throughout the day include a Marshall Pep Rally, a performance by the First Stage Theatre Co., Best Booth/Showmanship, People's Choice Award, Best Salsa, Chili Verde Contest, Hot Pepper Eating Contest, Beer Drinking Contest and the Shoot n' Holler Contest. The Kids Corner features games, inflatables and other wholesome activities.

A raffle will be held benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Huntington for a brand new Toyota Camry LE from Advantage Toyota. Raffle tickets will be sold at ChiliFest, with the winning ticket chosen live at 6:00pm. Winner does not need to be present to win.

Then we invite all “Chili Heads” to make their way to Joan C. Edwards Stadium to watch the match up between Marshall University and Bowling Green. Kick off is 7:00PM. A Marshall Pep rally will take place on the plaza at 1pm to get you ready to cheer on the Herd. While your savoring the hot & spicy chili look for coupons for $7.00 off a game ticket! 5,000 coupons will be given away. (See attached flyer.)

ChiliFest is a charity cook-off, benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Huntington. Chili sample tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. ChiliFest begins at 11:00am and concludes at 6:00pm with the announcement of the winners and the live drawing for the Toyota Camry LE.
